The
Arabian Legend of
Omar the Dervish
|
Omar was reknowned for his ability
to cure the sick through prayer
and medicine.
His powers were not accepted by
all however, and he was forced by
his enemies
to wander the desert outside the
Yemenite port of Mocha. Nearing
death in this
desert exile, he stumbled upon a
small tree in the arid landscape.
Omar believed
the shrub was a sign from God and
he attempted to eat the berries
from the tree,
but found them much too bitter to
eat. He then built a fire, roasted
the beans, and
placed them into boiling water.
Finding the beans still too hard
to eat, he drank
the boiled water...
|
He
miraculously
recovered his strength and was
sustained for days! Omar's magic
potion soon had others making
the journey to his cave for
his extraordinary beverage.
Soon multitudes of people were
spreading word of the restorative
powers of this
amazing new drink.
|
|
Omar was eventually invited back
to Mocha
where he was made a saint!
