The Dandy Warhols Come Down represents a great combination
of elements drawn from the 60s and 80s into a modern semi-psychedelic
brew.
Opening track Be-In is a definite highlight, with a long,
brooding intro that transforms into a Brit-style rave up.
Boys Better is a charging rocker with great guitar and organ
hooks, while Minnesoter is a charming, psychedelic country
gem.
A stong mood pervades the album, though some songs may sound
a bit washed out at times with lots of guitars and submerged
vocals. The material varies from straight ahead power pop
singles to slow churners with hypnotic grooves, making for
rewarding repeat listens.
Overall it's a refreshingly solid album, likely to appeal
to anyone who wishes American bands had a bit more of a
British edge.
