From
the uplifting optimism of the title song, "Another Day",
to the humble seduction of "Better Man" and the infectious
"Love Comes Around", J. Gaines and the Soul Attorneys have
created a record that takes a careful look at the variety
and complexity of human emotion.
Review:
Not Just Another 'Pop' Album When I picked up the
CD case haphazardly last summer, I had no idea what I was
getting into. I knew the song, "Better Man", which
was circulating like crazy on the local radio stations,
but the rest of the CD was completely new to me. I bought
it on a whim.
J. Gaines & The Soul Attorneys contains a fervent collection
of lyrical masterpieces. While the album can come across,
at times, as somewhat cliche or even cheesy, the essence
behind each piece is that of a soul searching human being
reaching for the stars. The vocals are rich and entrancing,
the instrumentals well crafted and serene. It has no specific
classification, although it is probably mostly of the 'Pop'
persuasion.
Simply put, the album is unique. This album is best complemented
by a relaxing weekend drive along a country lane, or the
winding natural splendor of the Stanley Park roadway, or
any situation which allows for peaceful contemplation of
the complex simplicity of human life. From love songs, to
spiritual confusion and life questions, J. Gaines & The
Soul Attorneys' debut CD is a musical compilation not to
be missed.
