The Black Halos
The Violent Years

Reviewed by Jordan Eshpeter

The legacy of punk rock continues in the form of a five piece, black-clad rock band called The Black Halos. Paying homage to punk rock's founding fathers, The Black Halos aren't afraid to add their own pop element to this infamously dirty genre. From the rock anthem "Some things Never Fall" and through the remaining 11 tracks, the listener can't help but try to sing along to the often unintelligible lyrics. Billy's voice is as bitter as it is endearing, while the band backs him up with booming drums, steady distorted bass lines, raw power chords, and adrenaline-fueled guitar solos. With enough attitude and snarl to please the Grinch and enough hooks to please a Christmas tree, The Black Halos tear their way through The Violent Years leaving only smiles on the faces of listeners who know they just got rocked!
